How it all Began

First of all, I want to thank you for taking the time to read our blog. I hope to keep this blog updated as often as possible with information, encouragement, and exciting news as we begin the journey to bring our son, Aaron, home from Haiti. There are still a couple of obstacles to overcome before we can officially begin the adoption process but I felt the clearance from God to begin posting information so others can join their faith with ours to see this journey through to completion.

Let me start by telling you how it all began.

My husband's brother, Emory Wilson (wife Mary) was a fulltime missionary to Haiti. He lived in Gonaives for several years before returning to the states a few months ago. God led Emory to specifically minister in a very poor section of the city called Jubilee Blanc. God's vision for this area is being manifested through the building of relationships that are producing a school, medical clinic, feeding program as well other joint endeavors with other ministrties such as "Much Ministries" led by Beaver and Kathy Brooks which work to create job skills, hope, and vision for a better tomorrow for the people of Haiti. Here is a picture of Emory and Mary.

When Aaron was 3 months old his grandmother brought him to Emory and Mary's house from Jubilee because he was dying and she could no longer care for him. Her daughter had apparently died either during or shortly after birthing Aaron. Because formula is scarce in Haiti, he was severely malnourished. At 3 months he was 8 lbs. Emory took him to the hospital where he was told that there was nothing that they could do. They suggested that he take Aaron home and love on him until he died. Emory sent out an email to family and friends asking that we pray that he make it through the night. I stayed up that night praying and it was then that I "concieved" Aaron in the womb of my heart. He survived the night and became stable enough for Emory to take him to Ms. Dorothy's orphanage in Port Au Prince (Faith Hope Love Infant Rescue). She specializes in medical needs kids. At that time, Aaron did not have a name, so Mary and Emory named him "Aaron Justin Wilson". Ms. Dorothy loved and nurtured Aaron and he is now thriving under her care. Lester and I began sponsoring Aaron on a monthly basis shortly after that. Here is a picture of Aaron the night that he was brought to Emory's house.

I have always carried a special burden for Aaron in my heart. I could never talk about him without a lump coming into my throat and a tear in my eyes. Several months ago, I had a heavy burden for Aaron over several days. I put his picture as my profile pic on facebook and requested that my friends pray for him. I didn't know why. Three days later I received information from Dorothy that Aaron had been been diagnosed with Sickle Cell Anemia disease. It was then that I realized that God had given me a "mother's instinct" where Aaron was concerned. A couple of months later we received an email from Ms. Dorothy asking if we would consider adopting Aaron. I wanted to say YES immediately but my husband felt that we needed more direction.  We began to seek God and a few days later, God said YES!

Our family traveled to Haiti to meet Aaron for the first time on January 28th of this year. If there was ever any doubt that Aaron belonged with our family, ALL doubt was removed after that visit. Aaron is talked about on a daily basis in our family and treated as if he is already ours.

Aaron is a happy and healthy 2 year old little boy with big almond shaped eyes and a smile that will melt your heart. He is a little reserved and takes a little while to warm up to strangers. He is playful, and just a little stubborn which makes me even more assured that he belongs to me. *wink* He learns quickly and doesn't forget easily. I know given the obstacles that he has overcome in his short life, that God has great plans for his life!

We know that the journey won't be without it's own difficulties but we believe that anything worth having is worth waiting, fighting, praying, and yes...even crying for. Aaron is our son..and someday... we believe by the grace of God that he will be at home with us. Follow our journey, and please..join your faith with ours as we begin...Adopting Aaron.
